Refugee Act of 1980
Throughout history America has considered it self as a safe haven for refugees and asylees. With the continuance of fascism, communism, and totalitarianism around the world governments, only grew the desire to foreigners to immigrate [3]. America assumed the major role in assisting these people from different countries who were in need. Once the Refugee Act of 1980 was passed it established the criteria an individual had to fulfill in order to be considered a refugee, and allowed to enter the country [2]. This made it much tougher for immigrants who were trying to escape an oppressed life to gain access into the United States.
